Lesson Description: The instrument most used to imitate or fabricate sounds is the synthesizer. Early synthesizers have changed drastically from when they first appeared in the 1960's as big and costly machines to inexpensive ubiquitous downloadable computer applications. Understanding the basic concepts of how synthesizers work is essential to getting the best out of them. Students have opportunities to work with and program hardware synthesizer instruments and then apply what they have learned on software based synthesizer instruments.
Key Terms: Oscillator, Filter, Amplifier, Noise, Envelope Generator, Patch Program, Controller, Modulation
Goals: Students will be able to program a simple sound, store it and edit it using the Audacity audio editor.
